Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Overview:
There is an issue with a number of TWICs that did not have encrypted fingerprint information loaded onto the card during the production process. Cards that are affected by this issue will not work with TWIC® readers if the reader requires matching a person’s fingerprint to the encrypted fingerprint information on the card. This issue is referred to as “TWICs with missing fingerprints”.

Problem Description:
During the card production process, data specific to the TWIC® holder is loaded onto the TWIC card. Fingerprint information pertaining to two of the TWIC holder’s fingers is loaded onto the card’s chip. TSA received reports of cards that could not be used with the fingerprint matching function of TWIC readers. After investigation, we determined that some TWICs do not have the required fingerprint information on the cards. We compiled a list of the affected TWICs.

TSA will issue a replacement TWIC® at no cost to you if you have a card with missing fingerprint information. The list of TWICs with missing fingerprints can be found here. TSA recommends that you access this list to determine if your credential is affected. If your TWIC is on the list, you should request a replacement card (see below for more information).

How to tell if your TWIC® is affected by this issue:
The TWICs with missing fingerprint information can be identified by the 8-digit Credential Identification Number (CIN) that is printed on the back of the TWIC®. The CIN is on the bottom left side of the back of the card, as shown below.

Credential Identification Number

The list of TWICs with missing fingerprints can be found here.

Note: Documents in Portable Document Format (PDF) require Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher to view.

Download Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If the Credential Identification Number on your TWIC® matches a number on the TSA list then your card has missing fingerprint information and you should obtain a replacement as soon as possible.

How to get a replacement TWIC®:
If your TWIC® is on the list of TWICs with missing fingerprints, you can receive a no-cost replacement by calling the TSA Enrollment by IDEMIA Call Center at 855-347-8371, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to10:00 PM (Eastern). Please identify that your card has missing fingerprint information, and the Customer Service Representative will assist you with ordering a replacement. You may have the replacement TWIC mailed directly to you, or shipped to an enrollment center for pick-up.

When you receive your replacement TWIC®, you must turn in your current TWIC with the missing fingerprint information to the enrollment center (if you designate enrollment center pick up), or by mailing it back to TSA (if you choose to have the replacement card mailed directly to you.)
